Situated within the auspicious dress circle of fortuitous mesoclimes, encompassing some of Margaret River's most stately wineries, Xanadu is a pioneer with a long history of producing the most elegant and intensely flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon. Exmoor is an approachable entry to the prestigious flagship range of distinguished Xanadu vineyard wines, representing the essential experience in Margaret River Cabernet, endowed with solid structure, firm tannins, fragrant dark berry fruit characters and refined, stylish oak.

Xabregas manage the finest vineyards in the greater Mount Barker area. They are contract grows for Houghton, Howard Park and Forest Hill, the choicest parcels of Merlot and Cabernet however are retained and earmarked for their own label. It is the belief at Xabregas that the alchemy of vinification takes a back seat to the quality of fruit coming from their three estate vineyards. The growers and winemaking team work side by side to preserve the expression of terroir, achieving a wine with excellent colour, soft, beautifully integrated tannins and maximum fruit intensity.

The archetypal west coast Bordeaux style, a vibrant cepage of Cabernet and Merlot, Malbec and Franc, picked off the first vineyards ever planted to Margaret River. A component from the younger Woodlands Brook site contributes structure and aromatics. Woodlands remains an enigma, as the vineyard team place great trust in the quality of fruit, the finished wine can be both pretty and powerful. Vinified exclusively of Wilyabrup parcels, painstakingly hand sorted, berry by berry, the graceful tannins continue to soften, as the fruit begins to sing.

Very few vineyards yield the quality of fruit that merits vintaging into a statuesque wine dominated by the prettily fragrant Cabernet Franc. Woodlands were established from the ground up with a view to achieving limited harvests of the arcane Bordeaux varietals, only a few hundred cases of good red wine per vintage. There are now two estate vineyards, located within two kilometres of each other in Wilyabrup Valley, dry grown and farmed through traditionally organic techniques. The sanctity of soil yields a vividly varietal Cabernet Franc of finite peerage.

A stately accord of the most superior Margaret River fruit, offering great concentration while displaying an exemplary integration of tannins and oak. Woodlands Vineayard is bequeathed with plantings of elite Cabernet vines established 1973. Whilst much of their resplendent fruit finds its way into some of the better known estate flaghips of Margaret River, the pick of the crop is kept back and vinified under the Woodlands label. An assemblage of the best barrels Merlot and Malbec around a backbone of the finest Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Franc finally takes the lead, dominating the cépage at almost half the final blend, followed closely by Merlot, a tenth of Malbec and soupçon Verdot and Sauvignon. Emily is an emulation of the immensely satisfying Crus of Saint-Émilion, formulated at a time when Woodlands were selling all their Cabernet Sauvignon to other brands, all that remained were parcels of Merlot and Malbec, Verdot and Franc. Deep and brooding, cherries and dark chocolate, bay leaf, charcuterie, and vanillin oak, a luxurious velvet texture, rich, chewy tannins.

Clémentine is sourced entirely from Woodlands Brook Vineyard, established to Merlot and Malbec, Verdot and Franc, a superior northwest facing site on free draining Wilyabrup soils. A block of Cabernet vines were later added to a patch of auspicious heavy gravel clay soils, perfect for the realization of powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. Salinity, cocoa and clove, blood orange and river silt, the elegant palate brimming with ripe red fruits, a lovely mix of floral elements and winegum lozenge complexity, Clémentine lingers endlessly on a line of lively mineral acidity.

Cabernet with Merlot is the way of red wine from Margaret River. You'll hear some arguments from the Shiraz dudes but don't pay any attention. Vinified from fruit grown to the best sites, inaugural release was a winner at the London International. Add the plum and plush of Merlot to flesh out the opaque muscularity of Cabernet Sauvignon, Brad is hard to beat and this is pretty smart stuff. Have it alongside good food, this is gonna do some great things to your social life, so you should get some into you today.

Deep scarlet colour. Bouquet of raspberries and blackcurrant, followed by sweet and spicy vanillan with hints of cigarbox and pencil from the new French oak. A currant and bramble, plum and cocoa flavoured palate, seasoned with fragrant oak spice and supported by lengthy, savoury tannins. Long memorable finish of fragrant blackberry cassis notes and refined, fresh acidity.

Frankland River is a region that's well known for the quality of its graceful Cabernet Merlot wines. West Cape Howe have spared no expense in acquiring some of the oldest established Frankland River vineyards. The finest harvests are treated to minimal intervention, for the realization of stately Cabernet Merlot wines. Hannan Hills is pure Frankland River, from estate properties which are closely managed to encourage strong vine development and achieve perfect yields of evenly ripened fruit, endowed with refined tannins and a concentration of flavour.

Originally identified and reserved for the express purpose of growing only the finest grapes and crafting world class wines, the Watershed vineyard is endowed with the most idyllic viticultural and climactic conditions, for realizing harvests of the most splendid Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. Crafted by one of Margaret River's most experienced winemaking teams and assembled into a single wine, Shades is brimming with aromatic fruit and replete with ripe, stylish tannins.

The Watershed property is strategically positioned within the most precious winegrowing terroirs, along the major arterial highway for traffic travelling to and from Margaret River township. Senses has accumulated an impressive list of wine show competition awards. Watershed's vineyards are fortuitously positioned astride some of the best soil compositions in Margaret River, where the vines yield harvests of Merlot and Cabernet endowed with exemplary varietal characters, an intensity of flavour and the finest, showroom tannins.

The Swings & Roundabouts team purposely leave the fruit to ripen on the vine for the longest time allowed by nature, encouraging the development of fully developed tannins and sugars alongside heightened varietal characters. The Redgate property is one of the southernmost vineyards on Margaret River, situated just three kilometres from the Indian Ocean. The family owned and operated wineworks at Redgate create impressive red wines endowed with the characteristic nose and flavour of Margaret River. Bin 588 was first made in 1988 and has always included harvests of grapes sourced from good local vineyards. This stylish cepage of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon is medium bodied with a delicious burst of of ripe dark fruits, plum and blackberry aromas.

The signature red wine style of Margaret River, from one of the region's most opportune microclimes. Moss Wood were destined from their very genesis to be one of the new world's great marques in Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellence is the estate's raison d'etre, all work amongst the vines and throughout the vinification demands a no expense spared production, aimed at crafting the most statuesque vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. Malbec contributes rich red currant notes, Petit Verdot adds confection, Merlot is all cherries and summer pudding. Luxury oak in support with toasty, coffee bean flavours and vanilla tannin for gentle, flattering grip.

One of the more profound Margaret River constructs of the complex Bordeaux blend, a cépage of Merlot and Malbec, Cabernet and Petit Verdot. Combines the blueberry and blackcurrant fruit characters of Yallingup with the perfumed violets and toothsome red currants of Cowaramup, generous fruit depth with soft oak influence, in fine support with a toasty, spiced background. Mandoon are a Swan Valley operation of great provenance, their homestead vineyard being an ancient block established on the first rural grant in Western Australia, circa 1929 at a property named Sandalford. Always on the lookout for exceptional parcels of fruit, the highly decorated Mandoon team have focused on a northern block of Research Station Vineyard in Margaret River. A scrupulous excise of the most rigorous pick, is treated to the most exacting standards of vinification and a term of age in the finest coopered French oak.

Named for the Chapel district of Lenton in Nottingham, Brae is Scottish for a small hill, which is what the Lenton Brae vineyard is situated on. Fortuitously placed within the very epicenter for superior Margaret River Cabernet, the site was planted after advisement from the proprietors of nearby Moss Wood, with which it shares a similar terroir and microclime. The inaugural vintage of Cabernet won Lenton Brae a place in the pantheon of great Margaret River estates when it claimed two trophies, including best of show, at the WA winemakers exhibition.

Prelude can lay claim to the most praiseworthy vineyards in Margaret River, for a world class Cabernet Merlot wine which measures up to, or surpasses it's sibling rivals in the Medoc. The majority of vineyard blocks contributing fruit for Howling Wolves are bordered by towering eucalypt trees that influence the grapes to develop distinctive qualities which are a trademark of Margaret River. This is particularly recognizable in the red varietals which take on unique mint and gum leaf characters. A spell of ageing under fine French oak further infuses the palate with vanilla bean and light spice.

Howard Park is always the result of the most stringent selection criteria all the way from vineyard to bottle, only the finest fruit and most perfect ferments are included. Howard Park's Great Southern vineyards again yielded a harvest of the most richly textured Cabernet Sauvignon, providing the structural backbone. A choice parcel from Margaret River has made a splendid contribution without dominating. Long, long, long! The historic Houghton wineworks have been famous for producing regional benchmark wines ever since the inaugural release of 1859. Today, Houghton continues the tradition by consistently delivering award winning efforts of outstanding quality and affable regional charm.
